RetroTek Service & Maintenance
We aim to deliver the highest standards in customer support.
To keep your mobile retroreflectometer unit performing at its optimum levels we recommend a routine maintenance of the unit after 5,000 hours of operation or every three years, whichever comes first. Our routine maintenance service includes:
- Visual inspection of the unit
- Visual inspection of the attachment mechanism
- Inspection and adjustment of any mechanical parts
- Full system Diagnostics
- Inspection and testing of leads and connectors & replaced as required
- Replacement of all LEDs
Inspection and testing of the cameras - Inspection of camera & projector lenses
Software upgrade when required - Calibration, testing repeatability & reproducibility of the system
- Quotation for any other items that require replacing due to wear & tear and are chargeable to the client
- Quotation for any hardware & feature upgrades available.
The RetroTek Mobile Retroreflectometer Maintenance and Repair Service requires the unit to be returned to our factory where our engineers provide a professional repair service. Any replacement or repair costs associated with physical damage of the unit will be assessed and quoted before any repairs are carried out. Our team will schedule your maintenance and repairs to minimize the downtime and return the unit as soon as possible.
Note: Subject to availability, a replacement RetroTek-D unit may be available to rent during the downtime
There are no moving parts so no annual maintenance is required, other than replacing the camera & light glass covers if broken, pitted or scratched. Your RetroTek mobile retroreflectometer unit is supplied with a spare set of glass covers & these covers are available ex-stock. We recommend that a spare set of lenses are always carried in the survey vehicle. Broken glass covers are easily replaced without opening the enclosure. The Glass Lens used is a High Quality Toughened Anti-Reflective Glass so no other glass should ever be fitted as it will adversely affect the results.
There is a possibility that the certified white calibration object that is supplied with your system may become contaminated or dirty over time. This can be returned to the manufacturer for recalibration or replacement if any visual inspection reveals dirt/damage. It is recommended that it should be recalibrated or replaced annually. If a damaged or dirty calibration object is used, this could adversely affect system performance & results. During the calibration process, the system will indicate if the calibration object is losing its visual properties due to wear, dirt, or damage.

RetroTek Product Support
We aim to deliver the highest standards in customer support.
RetroTek systems come with a dedicated Remote Technical Support Team, offering a complete solution to remote installation, technical & operational support, operator training and after-service maintenance for the full range of RetroTek retroreflectometers.
Initial contact with our support team is through your local technical support center by phone or email. The customer must have the RetroTek-D system serial number available and a support number will be allocated.
To minimize operational down-time and the necessity to return systems to the factory or to our service points, the remote technical support team can remotely access all RetroTek systems over Wi-Fi or Cell phone Hotspot.
RetroTek systems are specifically designed for remote support for after-service maintenance, remote diagnostics and software updates.
Our engineering design team focused on understanding the issues for customers installing products and have modified the design and developed tools that greatly simplify this process. Our ability to remotely access live machines has proven invaluable for both our support engineers and our customers. For e.g., with the customer’s cooperation & permission we have the ability to log into the RetroTek system directly during a survey in the field and assist the RetroTek operator, if and when required.
We have assisted and trained both experienced and novice customers to install systems with relative ease.
Discontinued RetroTek Products
The RetroTek technologies are developed and currently manufactured in Ireland to very stringent quality control standards. There are many RetroTek systems operating worldwide in various climates since 2016 and which will continue to do so for many more with the recommended maintenance and servicing.
Naturally, our product development approach ensures that we continue to make major advances in the development of RetroTek technology, and as a result some older systems become outdated. Our technical support team will still continue to support, repair and service these systems for up to 10 years from their purchase date, including carrying spare parts.
We have discontinued manufacturing some RetroTek systems to standardize manufacturing of more advanced automated RetroTek systems. These systems have many more advanced features to assist with road pavement marking assessment safely & efficiently, with minimal operator intervention and more detailed software reporting.

RetroTek Product Warranty
Warranty Period:
This RetroTek Product is warranted against defects in material and workmanship for a period of one year (12 months) from the date of shipment unless otherwise stated on the Purchase Order. After this period, the product is considered out of warranty. During the warranty period, the manufacturer will, at its discretion either:
- Repair the defective product or part on site or
- Have the defective product or part returned to the nearest local RetroTek Service Point for repair; or
- Replace the defective product or part; or
- Supply a replacement product or part to enable buyer to carry out the necessary repairs at the manufacturer’s expense
- Loan a replacement system until repairs are complete.
When necessary, the customer should return the RetroTek system packed securely in the original flight case supplied to the nearest local RetroTek Service Point. Replacement parts, fittings etc. under this warranty shall be borne by the manufacturer. The manufacturer is responsible for returning the repaired system to the customer. RetroTek systems will be repaired and returned as soon as possible.
Outside Warranty or Warranty deemed Void:
Systems which require repair and are either outside the warranty period or the warranty is found to be void, can also be repaired by the manufacturer. Diagnostics and repairs on these units out of warranty are fully chargeable to the customer. It may not be obvious that a system’s warranty is void until after diagnostics check and analysis is undertaken, in which case the manufacturer will inform the customer of the reason for the warranty being void and the costs associated with the repairs required.
If a customer has a current technical support contract with the manufacturer, the technical support will not be charged. However if the warranty is void and the system has been subjected to an event outside what would be expected in the normal operation, support may be charged at the discretion of the manufacturer. RetroTek systems that are out of warranty or where the warranty is deemed void will not be repaired unless authorization is received in the form of a Purchase Order (P.O.) from the customer. The cost of returning the system to the customer will be the responsibility of the customer.
With the exception of Camera & Light Glass Lenses, there are no user serviceable components or assemblies on current RetroTek retroreflectometer products. The user should not access any of the internal electronics or components inside the closed cabinets or open the system main enclosure. The manufacturer will consider the warranty to be void if these areas have been accessed without written authorization from the manufacturer.
